Issue with Hardening Soil Model for Low Values of Soil Cohesion

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

I am modeling a slope using Hardening Soil Model. The slope angle is 10 deg and the friction angle and cohesion for sandy soil is 35 deg and 10 Pa (nonzero cohesion for better numerical stability). For the given slope angle and strength parameters, the slope is stable. However, the program cannot find the solution and terminates with non-convergence error (it works only with high values of cohesion). Could you please let me know what causes this error? It is worth noting that another soil plastic model (elastic-perfectly plastic) has been tested for this problem that gave stable results.

The model is generated in version 5.4 and is attached.

Thanks,
