Piezoelectric simulations: How to simulate Piezo effect of the distributed piezoelectric material (e.g. granite)

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

Comsol provides a very extensive mateiral and application examples on piezoelectric material simulations. Though, nothing I can find for the case when the piezo material is mixed and sitributed with some other non piezoelectirc medium. Is there a way to simulate such?

To give an exmaple... how to simualte granite (with some assumption on the quartz content, crystal size, distribution, etc) mixeded with feldspar?

Low fidelity simulations is okay

Thanks

Hi,

interesting project and certainly not simple. You might consider to set up a microscopic model with an explicit geometry comprising such crystals and grains in a matrix. Then try to fit the coupling matrix of a homogeneous material to the results of the microscopic model. Using optimization may be an option here. You may need to do this for a number of random geometries all keeping within the assumed composition.

Just a wild idea. Good luck, Edgar
