# Application Gallery

The Application Gallery features COMSOL Multiphysics® tutorial and demo app files pertinent to the electrical, structural, acoustics, fluid, heat, and chemical disciplines. You can use these examples as a starting point for your own simulation work by downloading the tutorial model or demo app file and its accompanying instructions.

Search for tutorials and apps relevant to your area of expertise via the Quick Search feature. To download the MPH-files, log in or create a COMSOL Access account that is associated with a valid COMSOL license. Note that many of the examples featured here can also be accessed via the Application Libraries that are built into the COMSOL Multiphysics® software and available from the File menu.

### Tilted Pad Thrust Bearing

Tilted pad thrust bearings are used in rotating machineries with high thrust loading. The thrust load is transferred from a sliding part to a stationary part through hydrodynamic oil films. The tilted pad thrust bearing consists of a series of flat surfaces sliding over stationary tilted pads. The space between the flat surface and the tilted pad is filled by a lubricant that is drawn in due to ...

### Expansion Fan

An important and interesting phenomenon with supersonic flows are expansion fans, which take place when the flow encounters a convex or expansion corner. The direction of the flow changes smoothly across the fan, while the Mach number increases. This 2D example models an expansion fan where the flow is inviscid, and the results are compared with inviscid compressible flow theory. An adaptive ...

### Flow Through a Uniform Inclined Screen

This model simulates the flow through a uniform inclined screen using the Screen feature in Single-Phase Flow physics and compares the results with an analytic solution.

### 1D Plane Slider Bearing

This benchmark model computes the load-carrying capacity of a one dimensional hydrodynamic slider bearing. The results are compared with analytic expressions obtained by solving the Reynolds equations directly in this simple case.

### 1D Step Bearing

This benchmark model computes the load-carrying capacity of a one dimensional hydrodynamic step bearing. The results are compared with analytic expressions obtained by solving the Reynolds equations directly in this simple case.

### Copper electrodeposition in a trench using the level set method

The present model example is based on Copper Deposition in a Trench model available in Electrodeposition Application Library. The nonuniform deposition along the trench surface leads to formation of a cavity/void. Since the Deformed Geometry interface cannot handle topological changes, the original model cannot be extended to simulate deposition after cavity formation. In the present model, ...

### Flow in a Hydrocyclone - new

Cyclones are used in a variety of applications ranging from the mining industry to vacuum cleaners. The flow in a cyclone is characterized by a very strong swirl, which makes it difficult to simulate. In this tutorial example, the v2-f turbulence model is used to simulate the flow in a hydrocyclone. The v2-f turbulence model, which is an extension of the k-ε turbulence model, provides highly ...
