Electric field distribution within a element

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello
I' using Comsol 4.0a to simulate the electric field between to plates. The upper plate is eqipped with a short rod to generate a discontinuity leading to a local enhanced field.

I have the following problem in general understanding the results. Given a linear basic function within the elements, the value for the electric field should be constant over the each element.
E = -grad v

But obviously comsol interpolates the field leading to a steady distribution within the elements.
Can someone show me my error? What did I forget?

Best regards.
Matthias
