Topology Optimization of a Shell element

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I've been trying to topology optimize a 3D curved, uniformly loaded, simply supported, ultra-thin circular shell. I have followed every tutorial on 2D topology optimization and recreated the 3d hook example, however when I apply all of the steps to the shell element, no material is being removed and the process stops after 2 iterations without any changes and no errors.

Are there specific steps I should take to be able to do that, or is it just not possible with a shell element that has a prescribed thickness in properties, rather than in geometry?

Thank you!
